Making a fair raffle with a list

A fair raffle gives every eligible ticket (or person) the chance the rules promise. Freeze the list, then draw with a uniform random pick — same idea as a giveaway list draw.

Steps

  1. Publish rules (who can enter, ticket price, prize order).
  2. Build the list: one line per ticket; duplicate names if someone bought multiple tickets.
  3. Freeze / export the list before drawing.
  4. Draw without replacement for multiple prizes.
  5. Record the result (screenshot or log) if transparency matters.

Worked examples

  1. 100 unique names, 1 prize: each 1% — one uniform pick.
  2. Weighted tickets: Alex bought 3 → Alex appears three times (or weight 3), disclosed in rules.
  3. 3 prizes: pick, remove, pick, remove — or shuffle once and take top 3 if shuffle is unbiased. See seeded shuffle explained.
