Guides/Liters ↔ gallons
Liters to gallons quick conversion
Fuel economy stickers, water cooler bottles, and import manuals disagree on “gallon.” Always check whether you need theUS gallon or the largerUK (imperial) gallon.
Factors to remember
- 1 US gallon ≈ 3.78541 L → litres ÷ 3.78541 ≈ US gallons.
- 1 UK gallon ≈ 4.54609 L → litres ÷ 4.54609 ≈ UK gallons.
- Quick US mental check: litres × 0.264 ≈ US gallons (because 1/3.785 ≈ 0.264).
Worked examples
- 50 L → US gal: 50 ÷ 3.78541 ≈ 13.21 US gal.
- 50 L → UK gal: 50 ÷ 4.54609 ≈ 11.00 UK gal.
- 10 US gal → L: 10 × 3.78541 ≈ 37.85 L.
