Cups to mL and ounces to grams
This page is conversion math only — useful factors and tables for US customary measures. It is not a recipe site and does not assume kitchen branding; always check whether your source meansfluid ounces (volume) or weight ounces.
Volume: US cup and fluid ounce → mL
- 1 US cup = 236.5882365 mL (≈ 237 mL for rough work)
- 1 US fl oz = 29.5735295625 mL (≈ 29.57 mL)
- 1 US cup = 8 US fl oz
- mL = cups × 236.5882365
Weight: ounce → gram
- 1 avoirdupois ounce (oz) = 28.349523125 g
- g = oz × 28.349523125
- oz = g ÷ 28.349523125 ≈ g × 0.035274
- Do not mix weight oz with fluid oz — different quantities.

Worked examples
- 1½ US cups → mL: 1.5 × 236.588 ≈ 355 mL.
- 12 fl oz → mL: 12 × 29.574 ≈ 355 mL.
- 6 oz weight → g: 6 × 28.35 ≈ 170 g.
- 200 g → oz: 200 ÷ 28.35 ≈ 7.05 oz.
Common mistakes
- Using UK imperial cups/gallons with US factors (this site’s converter uses US liquid volume).
- Treating fluid ounces as weight ounces.
- Assuming density of water for every substance when converting volume labels to mass.
